Winter Is Coming

This week we’re supposed to be breaking records, and we haven’t had any significant rainfall for weeks. It’s so odd that here, when it rains it pours, when it snowed this past winter it came down tremendously, but there are certain times of the summer that are getting hotter and dryer each year. This is one of those times. I finally got a sports medicine doctor referral go through, for Thursday morning. In the meantime, I am bored so have been going for some hikes, like I did today at lunch. The air seemed still and weighted. The grass is brown. But I walked along the creek near campus.

I do love heat, though our house will be uncomfortable during the next few days, as temps get into the upper 30’s. Hopefully the heat wave will not make all the wildfires in the interior worse, though it seems like it will.

I’ve been spending time lately, other than dreaming of trails, working on a novel called Code Blue, by Marissa Slaven. It’s a YA mystery where global warming is a strong character. I love the project–never having published a YA novel before. It’s slated to come out in spring of 2018. It’s really well-written, and I could see it as a movie. It’s like Hogwarts but with climate scientist students.

Speaking of stories, I am so happy that the 7th season of Game of Thrones is upon us. I love lore, and I think that George RR Martin definitely looks at life on Earth as having a sort of pristine beginning that humans came to play games upon–and then destruction of the environment began to parallel games of foolish behavior, though some kingdoms seem more noble than others. The long night and winter are coming, and I am suspended each week to know what will happen next. The white watchers are coming. I wonder if there are any more Children of the Forest, and what’s going to happen next!

Me with the photolab effect of a white watcher–wrinkled white face and icy blue glowing eyes, yikes!
