Ya’ll should watch Sinners

Posted on 30 Jun 202530 Jun 2025 By Dragonfly

So I haven’t blogged for half a year, but I’m alive and all that. You can follow what’s on my mind at the Dragonfly newsletter, where I recently wrote a very spoilery issue about the wonderful movie Sinners. I also have ebooks for sale this site now and I’m also trying to write another novel. Anyway, I’m working a lot, gardening, recently learned how to drive a zero-turn mower around our property, starting to kayak, just completed my 4th C25K and looking forward to 10K running again. The Sinners soundtrack helps me run, just like music always did.

Here’s some photos of our garden. I’m growing multiple varieties of green beans: pole, scarlet runners, bush, and “Kentucky Britches” (brought up to Canada in the 1800s from Appalachia, aka beans for shucky beans), peas, squash, tomatoes, many potatoes, dill, rosemary, green onion, leaf lettuce, couple rows of turnips/greens, mustard greens, and pumpkins. Thanks to Pat and Maisie for the celery plant! We have a few geraniums to keep the Japanese beetles off our beans. Up on my balcony are cilantro, mint, thyme, and something I don’t remember! We also have a strawberry patch (not shown), with a rhubarb plant. And there’s a patch of mint out in the meadow I hope I didn’t mow over. As you can see, we’ve totally relandscaped the garden area with some stone slabs and we built the steel 3-foot high garden plots. The peaches, pears, cherries, and apple trees are starting to fruit. I also planted some hollyhock and milkweed. I’m kicking myself for not trying to plant heather and thyme in the garden. Maybe next year.
