I was reading old blog entries a couple weeks ago to figure out when the peepers have come out in the past. Seems like anywhere from March to April they start singing. Well, I heard them just barely last week sometime, but two nights ago I opened the front door around 1:00 am to see how windy it was because I kept hearing sounds outside. It wasn’t really too windy, but lo and behold, there was a beautiful chorus of peepers! I was beyond happy. This coming weekend if it’s not pouring rain, I’ll sit outside and drink a little wine, listening for the tiny male tree frogs calling for mates. There’s no better thing to do on a Friday night.
Morgan’s mom visited a couple weekends ago, and we went over to do a little hike on the Shubenacadie Trail near Lake William, and it was a great little jaunt. I took a photo of a train that just happened to pass under an area near a suspension bridge.
We also bought a canopy/tent like thing this year to put out on the balcony because soon we’ll have black flies. They’re only here for a couple weeks, but after that we basically get mosquitoes until October or so. The canopy has netting all around it, so I can’t wait to set that up. Morgan and I have been talking about the numerous projects we need to do on the yard and house. I do all the mowing (loved learning how to drive the zero-turn mower last summer) and the gardening. Morgan usually does weeding and handy work, though we both pitch in with the latter. Last fall we tore down a wooden arch on our front sidewalk because it was starting to fall due to rotting wood. Morgan and one of our friends recently took all the old wood to be recycled. Morgan’s also going to re-cement some of the steps leading up to where that wooden arch was. He used good wood last fall to create a railing leading to the steps.
Well, we both got sick in late February or early March. I felt like we had bronchitis or something, but it was a virus and took a while to get over. It totally ruined my 10K running plans, but I think I can get back into it this week. My next run is a 50-minute run, and I’ve been rowing, doing some squats and stretches. I just need to stretch a while before running so I don’t injure my IT band.
I did say I wanted to start blogging again, right? I’m not as good as I used to be at it, but I’m kind of thinking of writing here instead of my newsletter. Or maybe I’ll do both but just make my newsletter “whenever”.
Also, I started a new Reddit called “Rewilding Our Stories“. I’ve asked multiple people to join, but nobody I know is on Reddit. Maybe this is just a dumb idea? I’m going to keep at it though. Join up if you want to. I’m looking for another moderator.
