Box of Rain

Posted on 9 Jun 202219 Jun 2022 By Dragonfly No Comments on Box of Rain

It’s mid-June, just after 6:00 pm, and I’ve got the windows and doors open to a darkening green day. The rain is pouring outside, like Vancouver-style rain. It sounds nice. “Rain is fallin’ from a heavy sky.”

Reminds me of before the rain, when I took a small break from work and danced around the living room for about half an hour. I stretched. I did weird dances, which I thought were like an amoeba might move or a tree with falling leaves. Hearing the Grateful Dead’s “Box of Rain” started it out. It always reminds me of Freaks and Geeks. That scene in that show reminds me of the quintessential epiphanies of life and how just moving along with them and understanding them always feels good, and you can always go back to them. You can time-travel and turn 15 again and relive it.

It’s been a good week. I found out my contract job is moving to a permanent job at the end of the month. We’ve got our gardens planted. I finished at least a draft of an article for Impakter. I get to go to the states in the fall and visit family. Yes, things are good. Our first summer bonfire at our friends’ place down the road is this weekend, if weather permits. I just ate a wonderful cabbage roll. My newest book is in the hands of one of my favorite editors, Fran, whom I met right after college at my first job at Macmillan Publishing. It’s really cool to keep in touch with old friends. So much has changed since then, but really, so much has not.

Well, that’s a quickie. I’ve been out of the loop on social media, for the most part. I’ve been gettin’ stuff done, dancing in the living room, admiring my new jasmine plant, and listening to the rain.
