Social media and politics

Posted on 12 Nov 20241 Feb 2025 By Dragonfly No Comments on Social media and politics

I know I’m terrible at posting new blog entries consistently, but life is going well. I’ve just been reading more books and am making good headway in my newest novel.

On politics and social media, recently Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said the following:

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism.

We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive.

I like this. It’s a kind way to communicate why some of us don’t feel like supporting Twitter and have deactivated our accounts there; I hadn’t been active for the past couple years either. Lots, like me, have moved to Bluesky, which isn’t owned or manipulated by a billionaire. Also, bots and hateful accounts are easy to block and ignore. We need to work with people who understand the potential dystopian path America is taking. We won’t succumb, but we also need to have people by our side to continue to fight for our rights.

Does it feel great to be the underdog blue? Well, no; ironically, the new prez never drained the swamp and is just adding to it. But I am a fan of being graceful during systems failure and of doing the groundwork to make things better. Historically, there has always been a tug-of-war between hate, paranoid, and lies and the opposite: truth, love, and sustainable collaboration. I’m also not a fan of billionaires; honestly, who is?
